Hello. I am doing the full backup I have Novanet version 10.00-sp3a. I have custom rotation set up. My schedule settings are Run repeatedly; Rotation type Custom rotation; Number of rotation sets = 20 I wanted to run monthly backup last Thursday. I have been told that I can just go into the properties of the schedule and un-schedule Thursday backup only for this week. Create one time monthly backup and after Friday backup is done tomorrow, schedule Thursday backup again for the next week. Then last Friday when I tried to run regular Friday backup with Friday tape in the tape drive, I received error 1401. I’ve been told that I need to run a quick erase on the media, and then allow the job to automatically format. I did that and the backup ran fine for that day. Yesterday, on Monday August 4, 2009, I used the right tape for that day, but I again got the same error message: ‘’error 1401’’. I’ve been told that I do not need to run a quick erase on the media, it was just for this one time for Friday and for Monday everything will be ok. Please let me know ASAP. What should I do next to resolve this problem? Or you can give me a suggestion about different rotation schema scenario. I am using HP autoloader. I have found that NOVANET knows how many tapes you have, but will not allow you to simply place sometimes even a brand new tape into the drive and just let you run a scheduled full backup. Miss one day and the labeling schema will be forever changed. Please get to me ASAP. Thanks Alex

You are manually naming the formatting the tape and not formatting with the correct ID that NovaNET is requesting for the media.
Configure your job in this Manner:
Device / Media section - Make sure the Auto Format section denotes that it will Auto Format All Media
Options Section - make sure its configured to Overwrite All Media
Schedule -
Run Repeatly - Custom Rotation - Not Fixed
With your interval settings make sure you reflects the number of tapes you want to use for a specfic interval.
For Example and 2 week 7 day rotation would be configured as such:
Daily Interval: Number of Rotation Sets = 12
Weekly Interval: Number of Rotation Sets = 2
