IMPORTANT TECHNICAL INFORMATION

Resolved Issues:

• Open File Backup (VSS) issues.
• Selecting smart select in backup tab and another folder will duplicate the folder you selected under the folder you selected in the restore view.
• NsService can crash when backing up with encryption turned on.
• Ejecting media after backup is done with the REV drive is ejecting the cart before the verify starts.
• Mirroring a large amount of files that the destination already has a large amount of the files to be mirrored hangs the operation.
• Log file stats no volumes were selected if the only thing you have selected for backup is a plug-in.
• Machines that have hidden file extensions can not see files to import.
• Invalid and truncated content in Smart Select filters.
• Filters not working correctly in Copy mode.
• A folder named the same as the parent folder can not be view in the restore view.
• Upgrading from one version of NovaBACKUP 10 to another version of NovaBACKUP 10 does not work correctly.
• Log file can say that nothing went wrong when actually nothing was backed up.
• Incremental and Differential backup performs full backups if job was made in the Backup Wizard.
• On GUI start if Nero Scout is installed on the machine it can take a long time to create views.
• Archive bit is not being reset correctly in web based devices.
• Installer is not asking whether or not to delete scripts, logs, or media when uninstalling.
• Copy tab can sometimes not clear the selections you had before if you make a new job.

Known Issues:

• Amazon S3 has a single file size limit of 5GB.
• The FTP and Online Storage powered by Digi-Data have a single file size limit of 2GB.
• Open File Backup does not work on Vista 64 bit.
• Ejecting media after backup and the verify option is not selected, the media will not be ejected.

• Open File Backup:
  * This release includes support for Open File Backup using Microsoft's Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS). However, In order to utilize Open File Backup, NovaBACKUP must be run on either Windows XP, 2003 or Vista. To enable Open File Backup support on XP, 2003 and Vista, click the "Settings" button in the Backup window and check: "Enable Open File Backup"
  
  
• Copy Job Function does not support spanning media or files
  
  
• Backup Exclusion List is in the profiles folder in the Nsexc.ini file.
  
  
• Verify is now a Full verify of all files in the backup, so it will take quite a bit longer to verify than previous versions.

Help File Addendum:

• The Backup Options help is missing the information about the Media Chunk option. This option allows you to choose the chunk size of the resulting backup file, .nbd file. The options for this are 1GB, 2GB, 4GB, and No Chunk. No Chunk will not chunk the file and it will grow to as large as it needs to in order to hold the data that you are backing up. Make sure your file system can handle the size of file you are telling NovaBACKUP to write.
  
  
• The Advanced Options tab under Default Settings help is also missing some information about new functionality that was put in. The minimum free space to leave on the system directory drive and the temp directory drive. The default for this is 1500MB or about 1.5GB. These settings mean that if you are backing up to the drive specified for either the System or Temp lives on it will leave that amount of space free on that drive when doing the backup to that drive. There is also now an option to change the temporary files folder that NovaBACKUP uses for it's temporary files and media indexes. Finally there is the option to directly open the default exclude filter. This filter is used to exclude files or folders that you never want backed up.

TECHNICAL INFORMATION FOR CD/DVD BACKUPS

1. To ensure compatibility with the widest range of hardware and OS platforms, backup with verify operations may cause the media to be ejected and reloaded (auto tray load on drives that support it) between the backup and verify operations. This is being done to make Windows recognize the newly written media. Please be aware of this condition and do not disturb or interfere with the media/drive during the eject as the tray may close immediately.

2. Due to the nature of DVD-R, burning to this type of media often takes a long time to complete and may show a status of "Closing Session" for quite some time. This is normal.

3. For this release, there must be a minimum amount of disk space available of 1 GB or better.

4. Please remember that DVD media refers to a gigabyte of data as a pure 1 billion bytes, not the actual value which is 1,073,741,824 bytes. Therefore, the maximum amount of data that will fit on most current DVD media is about 4.4Gb.

5. Integral backup file splitting is automatically done by NovaBACKUP, therefore, no issues should be encountered regarding any file size limitations based on file system type.

6. Backups which span more than one piece of media will require the entire set of media to be available during restore. This may change in future revisions to only require the necessary media for the files being restored.

7. It is recommended that you turn off Auto-insert notification for CD-R/W and DVD devices when performing backups. With "Auto-insert" notification enabled while other software is writing, the operating system continuously tries to read the contents of the disc being recorded to determine the appropriate action to take.
