NovaNET 11 SP1 Service Pack Release 1 November 13th, 2007
This is NOT unsolicited e-mail. You can add/remove yourself as a member of our List at any time. | ***CAUTION STATEMENT*** IMPORTANT NOTE - PLEASE READ! | | - This version of NovaNET will not be able to communicate with previous versions. Thus if you upgrade, you must upgrade your entire storage management domain to continue with your same backup schedule(s) for all machines.
- The new auto-upgrade of clients feature will be effective when upgrading to future versions of the product. Installation of this service pack will require manual installation on each client. Netware clients will transfer the new service packs to the client, but will not automatically launch the upgrade process. The upgrade process can be initiated by running the installer downloaded to the product temp directory.
| | Instructions on installing/upgrading your current NovaNET | | - Version consistency when using network backup: If you are running NovaNET on a network, always install the latest version or service pack on each machine for which you have purchased a license.
- To install NovaNET on Windows, you must have installed Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher.
| | | | Release Notes - What's New/Fixed/Known Issues | | New Features: ==================== - Backup Copy policy The Backup Copy policy is a feature that allows automatic creation, configuration, and scheduling of copy jobs for media created by a backup job. When used with a rotation scheme, this provides great flexibility for the data protection duration for a wide variety of use cases. When used without a rotation, it provides a simple yet powerful way for users to duplicate media. NOTE: A D2D2Many license is required to enable the Backup Copy Policy feature. - Auto-Upgrade of Clients Automatic client upgrade is a feature that is designed to help users with deployment of new service packs or versions of the product in a network environment. When the master server is updated, each client automatically downloads and installs the build, allowing just the domain server to be updated manually by the installer. NOTE: This feature will be effective when upgrading to future versions of the product. Installation of this service pack will require manual installation on each client. Netware clients will transfer the new service packs to the client, but will not automatically launch the upgrade process. The upgrade process can be initiated by running the installer downloaded to the product temp directory. - Library Enhancements Many improvements have been made to enhance user experience with libraries. These enhancements include a media barcode filtering mechanism which allows users to precisely control access to media by barcode. User can specify ranges, wildcards, or explicit barcodes, to either allow or disallow media use by the product. These rules can be overridden by jobs if needed. This only applies to libraries with barcode support; stand alone devices or libraries without barcode support are not restricted. - New Daily Append Rotation Type A new rotation type, intended for users with limited media, has been created. A new media set is used each week for a full backup. Daily incremental backups are appended to this media set. This allows a limited number of media to participate in daily backups.
Updates in NovaNET SP1 ==================== - Improved Linux Support Many improvements have been made to maintain currency for new Linux releases. As part of this enhancement, all necessary libraries are now included with the distribution. The user is not required to configure additional packages to complete product installation. Disaster Recovery support has been added for Xen based kernels. Partitions are now detected using unique identifiers (UUID). Ubuntu 6 and 7 are now supported. - Control of Jobs from the properties Jobs can now be controlled from the within the property page of the job. Previously users were required to close the property page and select the job commands such as Run, Stop, etc. These commands are now available from within the property page. - Schedule Control Commands New commands to control the scheduler have been added. The commands include, Pause, Continue, and Run Next Schedule. - Symbolic Links in Windows Vista Symbolic Links are now treated as native file system objects on Windows Vista. Fixes in NovaNET SP1 ==================== - Pre-Post commands may not execute in correct order - On systems with SELinux enabled after DR is complete some services fail to start on reboot - Install & Upgrade do not detect non-default installation on Linux - If one or more spanned media no longer exist, verify/restore jobs end up marking devices as offline - Format job of a single media in a library runs forever when the device is offline - SAS devices can't be seen in non-dr mode with Windows 2003 SP2 on certain systems - Linux DR fails to restore LVM info if lvm.conf is empty on Ubuntu - Execution (Pre/Post/Fail) scripts are not running in correct order - Linux DR fails with multiple RAID logical volumes - Directories and links are not restored if the other already exists with the same name - Depending on the time zone, Linux DR could restore files with incorrect modify time - Some temporary files remain after Linux DR - After Linux DR is completed the system unnecessarily performs file system checks - DR image creation fails on RHEL5 when service is started by system with SELinux enforced - Iomega REV 280 USB loader not showing up | | | | Other Important Items | | This list shows changes in operating system support at the time of this release.
