| Using client 11.0 Build 14. I have a single FTP device. When using "copy" to the FTP server, everything works fine. Folders are created and files are copied. When using the "backup" to the FTP server, I receive the listed error. Sequential runs of the backup job do not seem to make a difference. The directory tree is created, but files are not backed up. I am currently making a client 11.0 Build 16 (even though the builder site still says 11.0.15). Will this newest client solve the issue?

Hello,
The only difference between the backup and copy is the file compression/format. The fact that you can copy makes me think that it is not a permissions issue. One common thing that seems to help our software run in general is making the service run with admin credentials. I would like to know what happens if you run a backup with this being done.

| I cleared out the ftp site folder tree and ran the tests again. 1. The first run of the "ftp test" backup job to the FTP Store.0 device created the ".metadata" folder and the "My Backups" folder. Nothing else. 2. The second run of the "ftp test" backup job to the FTP Store.0 device created a subfolder under "My Backups" named "ftp test". It did not create any files. Consecutive runs of the "ftp test" backup job did not change anything, and did not produce any files. The log is full of these errors.... Backup Failed : D:\Cisco\Cut-n-pastes\ACL-100 (VTY).txt Error e0020020: Unable to create the directory. Backup Failed : D:\Cisco\Cut-n-pastes\ACL-101 (SAN).txt Error e0020020: Unable to create the directory. Backup Failed : D:\Cisco\Cut-n-pastes\ACL-102 (APC).txt Error e0020020: Unable to create the directory. Backup Failed : D:\Cisco\Cut-n-pastes\ACL-103 (DATA).txt Error e0020020: Unable to create the directory. Backup Failed : D:\Cisco\Cut-n-pastes\ACL-104 (XEN).txt Error e0020020: Unable to create the directory. Backup Failed : D:\Cisco\Cut-n-pastes\ACL-119 (Bogons).txt Error e0020020: Unable to create the directory. Backup Failed : D:\Cisco\Cut-n-pastes\ACL-69 (EIGRP).txt Error e0020020: Unable to create the directory. Backup Failed : D:\Cisco\Cut-n-pastes\Banner.txt Error e0020020: Unable to create the directory. Backup Failed : D:\Cisco\Cut-n-pastes\Basic-RSM.txt Error e0020020: Unable to create the directory. Backup Failed : D:\Cisco\Cut-n-pastes\Basic.txt Error e0020020: Unable to create the directory. 3. Using the "Copy Wizard" from the Home page works just fine. 4. Using the "Backup Wizard" from the Home page will allow me to select the FTP Store.0 device as a backup destination, but once the other screens are completed and I am ready to actually perform the backup, I am prompted with "Please select a device". The service is running as me - the administrator of the local machine. I am not part of a domain.

Hello,
Try without Backup Wizard, From a Main Home Screen click on Backup Tab, then create you selection and on a bottom left choose your FTP Destination

| 1. Can not use the Backup Wizard as mentioned above. 2. My method has been to run a Backup Job created with the FTP Store.0 as the destination device. 3. I tried to use the method you mentioned and it produces the same failures as my backup job. 4. Using "Copy" to the FTP Store.0 still works good. My Version 11 Build 16 (even though it still says 11.0.15 on the builder site) should be done soon. I will see if that has any type of effect on this issue.

| I'm having the same error code in backing up to a local USB HDD. I know, it sounds like it's gotta be a permissions issue- but NovaBackup is running as an administrator, and the permissions on the drive allow me to manually create a folder on that drive. (logging in as the same user NovaBackup is using). We're using v11 build 16 - and this is on XP Pro. Regards, jared

It does sound like permissions. The FTP folder should have the administrator and the everyone account with full control listed to rule out permissions. If anyone does not know how to set the local service to run as admin, please use this:
Close Novabackup
Go to start, run
type services.msc
scroll down until you see novastor copy engine
right click
go to properties
go to the log on tab
Click the radio button to re-assign a login user
Browse to the Administrator account and select it
Hit ok until you're back at the log in tab
set the password and hit apply.
Reset the service once and then try to open Novabackup.

| I am now using version 11.0.16.0 with the same error listed in the logs when doing a backup to the FTP Store.0 -- Error e0020020: Unable to create the directory. This error is listed for each FILE in the backup job. I am using filezilla to watch the ftp site while the backup is running. All directories are created successfully.... A directory named as defined in the device "backup directory" - this has 2 directories created in it - a .metadata directory and a directory named "My Backups". The .metadata has a file named .session.ctl in it. The "My Backups" directory has a directory with the name of my backup job. That directory is empty. All of these directories are created by the client during the first run of the backup attempt to the ftp server. Obviously, permissions to write are not the problem. Repeated backup attempts do not change anything.

| Will, I tried what you suggested with no luck. Here's what I have done: -Repartitioned the USB drive in question -Formatted to NTFS -Took ownership of the destination and donor drive with a user that has Admin rights -Gave every user set up on the computer Full Control under Permissions and Security settings (Both at the drive level and Folder level) -Uninstalled, reinstalled v11.0.16 -Set my Admin account to "Run As" under Default Settings in NovaBackup -Set the service to "Run As" an Admin account, and restarted the service as you suggested above Here's what I CAN do: Log in to the PC as the Admin user that I've taken permissions/security Ownership with Drag and drop the main folder from one USB HDD drive to the other, and the Windows copy runs successfully with no errors. (I am trying to copy the contents of one USB HDD to another on a schedule) I am out of ideas... Jared
